Catchy little jingle

Ever seen the commercial for free credit report.com
Nick and I always joke about that commercial because we both love the song that they sing.
I saw this today- it's the same tune- but with a much better message!

It's your turn

I did this awhile ago and it was fun so I think it's time to do it again.
I'll leave with a question. When you comment answer the question and ask another one. Then next person to comment will continue the trend.

My question is:

What is the most outrageous thing you've ever done?

A great opportunity for you

I wanted to tell you all about an opportunity for you and your family to participate in.
Kim sent out an email giving information on a program to support our service men and women. It's called "adopt a soldier."
You go to the website and fill in a short form and then they set you up with a soldier. You can email, write letters, send packages- whatever you want to do- as much or little.

I signed up and I'm so excited about this program. I got set up with a woman soldier serving in Iraq. The really cool part is that she works with Apache Helicopters- just like my nephew Andy. Isn't God cool how he works!!

I think it will be so fun for the kids to be able to participate in this as well.
I can't imagine being so far from home without all the contact we take for granted.

If you want to participate you can go here:

Want a ride?

Sunday we had Birthday parties for Nick and Arianna on Mark's side of the family.
When I looked outside to check on the kids playing I saw Grandpa spoiling them.
Don has a large collection of old cars that he rebuilds. He has some really awesome cars. He took the kids for a ride and they loved it! (They weren't moving so that's why the kids were standing)

He has about 12 cars- they are all Buicks ranging from 1917-1972- at least one from every decade.
He also restored a 1936 Bolens travel trailer that matches his 1936 Buick Roadmaster.

He took on a huge project- restoring a Futurliner. It's a 1953- it was used in the Buick Parade of Progress. GM went around the country displaying items for the future.
He worked on it for 10 years. A museum owns it, but it's still on tour.
If you go here you can read a bit more about it.

Soccer starts

We were supposed to start soccer last Saturday but the rain delayed it to this week.
It started out as a crazy day because we had to have Halle there at 7:30 for an 8:00 game and Arianna there for pictures at 8:00 for an 8:30 game.

Halle won her game 8-0! Arianna tied 1-1. They both did really well. They worked hard throughout the whole game. We were very proud of both of them.

Nick's Birthday

Well I can't believe it but Nick turned 16 today!

Look closely on the picture of him with his presents. Notice the stuffed animals. The girls wrapped up a couple of their animals for a present for him.

Nick loves Bill Knapps cake- I have to say- I am glad the kids love it so much because Mark and I really like it too!

Happy Birthday Nick- we love you very much!

Can I get that paw wrapped to go please????

OK- for someone who was the biggest hold out of all of us for getting another dog- I'd say someone (Mark!) has adjusted rather well to having Oscar.
So well in fact that Oscar totally has him wrapped around his little paws!

Here is what I walked in on Saturday afternoon. Mark and Oscar taking a nap together and apparently Oscar had been the recipient of a tummy rub.

Now Sunday this is what I saw- I see a trend here. Now apparently Oscar can't sleep on the floor- they need a pillow!

I just don't get it!

I don't follow the VMA music awards but I read this morning on my homepage (msn) that the comic that opened the award show made some very distasteful jokes about the Jonas Brothers decision to wear purity rings.

Now I thought the liberals were all about choice? Why does the choice the Jonas Brothers (and many others) make for their own personal self seem to be so disturbing to the liberals.

Here's what a person involved in the purity ring movement said:

“Are we so threatened by a message of morals and values that these young men who chose to wear a ring were attacked?” asked Pattyn, the founder of a program called the Silver Ring Thing, in which teens pledge to remain virgins until marriage. “What’s the fear here? Why can’t we have an alternate message about waiting until you’re married to have sex? Why can’t we have those values? What are we afraid of?”

Jordin Sparks (winner of American Idol) had a really good comeback when she got on stage next after he made his comments. I won't repeat them but she had her own purity ring on defended her decision very well I thought!

What I'm doing today

FOR TODAY
Outside my Window...
is a beautiful September morning, it rained and was dreary yesterday so seeing the sun shining today is wonderful!

I am thinking...
I can't believe how much this little puppy has totally stolen my heart.

I am thankful for...
cooler temperatures and that fall is right around the corner.

From the kitchen...
breakfast was oatmeal...lunch will be delicious- I don't have to make it!
Supper is going to be chicken quarters

I am wearing...
jeans and a mango colored shirt.

I am reading...
nothing- I'm not a big reader

I am hoping...
to get my bedroom closet cleaned out and re-organized

I am hearing...
the dishwasher running and Oscar snoring

Around the house...
there's not much going on right now but things will quickly change around 4:00

One of my favorite things...
is to go to bed and watch tv for the last hour of the night- my wonderful husband almost always gives me a back rub for that last hour (I know- I'm spoiled!)

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...
not a lot going on this week but finish getting ready for both Nick and Arianna's Birthday's next week

The big news revealed!

Well it's time to reveal our big news!

Are you ready?

I'd like to introduce you to Oscar!

He is a Havanese/Pekanese mix and has totally stolen our hearts. We were not planning on getting a dog however a friend of mine decided to do it and she was telling me about a group of 3 ShitZhu dogs that she found that needed homes.
That got my mind started because I love them. We thought about it for a couple of days and decided not too do it.

However the next day "just for the fun of it" I started looking to see what else was available. Mark started looking to and we came across our puppy. As soon as we saw him we were pretty much gone!

We went to look at him Friday and he came home with us right then!
He is such a sweet puppy and is doing really well. He gets so excited when he sees us his whole body wags right along with his tail.
He weighs a whopping 3 pounds and won't get very big at all. He can't even climb our stairs right now. The kids all love him, however the person he has the most wrapped around his little paw is Mark!!
Mark won't admit it of course, but he is a total goner where Oscar is concerned!

Oscar got to meet Mack today. You can imagine how cautious we were with that introduction as Oscar weighs 3 pounds and Mack is just a bit bigger than that at 100 pds! Mack did great with him- he just sniffed him. It'll be cute to see them play together when Oscar gets a big bigger!

So I apologize in advance- you will be seeing plenty of Oscar in the future!
For now here's a few more pictures of our sweet new addition.
PS- now you understand my hint about our big news possibly being "little" depending how you look at it!

You have to watch the video to see how cute he is when he runs. I just love to see him bounce around!

Clouds

Did anyone notice the clouds in the early afternoon. It was really interesting to just see the whole sky everywhere I looked, filled with these interesting clouds.
I know the clouds were of Hurrican Gustav and it looked like the radar that they showed of the hurricane.

I just love nature and the displays of God's power that it shows.

A good night's work

We had such a nice night last night. After we ate supper, we decided it was time to get outside and get some work done outside.

I set out to do the hard labor of mowing the lawn. Now just because I'm on a riding mower doesn't mean it's not hard labor---right?!?!

Meanwhile, Nick was cleaning up the dog poo in Mack's kennel and Mark set out to clean up the part of the garden that was done producing. He wrapped up the protective fencing on the outside, picked out the plants that were done and then roto-tilled the garden so it looks nice again.
We still have tomatoes coming so that part is still in there.

Mark also got the pool all packed up again and put away.

It was such a beautiful night out. I absolutely love this time of year- it was so comfortable out.

I just have to show you our pumpkins. When we were getting our seeds and plants for the garden this year we saw a packet of seeds for "Giant Pumpkins."
So just for the fun of it we planted them for the kids. Well so far I'm very impressed! Check this one out. We have 6 of them doing very well.

Would this be big enough for you?

Apparently the girls thought Mack was looking pretty hungry because when we got groceries this week they found a bone for him.....

Not just any bone.........

a HUGE bone!

Just so you get a good idea of the size of this bone check it out in comparison to Halle:

Mack seems very pleased with his special treat!

I am still alive!

I know I've been gone for a long time but I just was busy and really had nothing much to blog about.
I am back now and will try to be a better blogger!

It was the 1st day back to school for the kids today.
Here's Arianna

Here's Halle

It was definately time to go back for all involved. The girls were so excited. Nick was ok- this year he doesn't know if he has any friends in his classes. I hope it goes well. He didin't want his picture on so it's just the girls. I had to chuckle this morning at the bus stop when ALL the moms had smiles on their faces as the kids boarded the bus.

I have already got the upstairs cleaned and it feels so good to see it stay that way for more than 10 minutes!
