A valuable lesson learned

I just had to post this real quick.
Arianna and I went to the grocery store today and there was a young man checking out in the aisle right next to me. He had torn up clothes on and a back pack on his back. All he was buying was a loaf of bread and he was having to fumble through his pockets to get enough change to pay for it.
When we got out to the van I asked Arianna if she had seen the young man and she said yes. I told her I wanted her to watch a minute for when he came out of the store. When he did, I pointed out to her that the backpack was probably everything he owned in this whole world and the sleeping bag he was carrying around was where he slept at night because he was homeless. Arianna's eyes got big when she realized the reality of his situation.
You see- earlier she had been not happy with me when I told her no when she wanted to go out for lunch. This was a real lesson for her. I have told the kids so many times how fortunate we are and how blessed we are. This time she was able to witness it in reality.
She told me she when she gets home she's going to go through her things and bring some to LOVE (Love in the name of Christ- an organization in our area).
I hope this is a lesson that is remembered for a long time.

Gotta love those life lessons that the Lord puts in our paths to teach our children to appreciate how good they have it. It's something in todays world that we have to work so hard at and finding that soft spot in their heart is priceless.

Nothing like seeing first hand some of our poor. She will remember that I'm sure...

It always makes more of an impact to see something like that in real life. It's a good lesson for all of us!

What a great experience for her to witness. Not great that those things exist but that she can understand what the "real" world is like.

Life lessons are always the best.

Glad to see that what she saw moved her heart.

thanks for dropping by Mennonite Girls Can Cook blog. I love your lesson story as my son used to call these...that you posted today. In this time of real uncertainty for all of us, we sure need to reach out more than ever for those less fortunate....there always those less fortunate.

Well done. I can't wait until Ruthie is old enough to understand things like that. We all have it so much better than others, and we need to teach our children, just like you did, the true meaning of Love.
